2/23/15- Graceling by Kristin Cashore page 228

If Katsa were sent to jail it would be for murder because in the summary on the back it says "Katsa has been able to kill a man with her bare hands since she was eight." She has mostly learned how to control her Grace (Graces are skills that these Gracelings excel at. It can be anything from cooking to juggling to killing) but she when she gets infuriated she may lose control. If she were to lose control she would end up killing someone and thus get sent to prison.

The author foreshadows doom by portraying Katsa as a person that is always surrounded by death and it would make sense that this pattern would continue further into her journey. For example, on pages 8 and 9 it says "She had killed once by accident, a memory she held close to her consciousness. It was how her Grace had announced its nature, a decade ago. His hand slid toward her leg, and her hand had flown out and smashed him in the face. So hard and fast that she'd pushed his nose into his brain." The Author also hinted at a conspiracy involving the king of a foreign country being kidnapped because the king (a.k.a. Grandfather Lienid) had disappeared and his sons were looking for him and the person that Katsa had been asked to break out of a foreign country's prison turned out to be Grandpa Lienid.

2/9/15- Sorcerer of the North by John Flanagan page 19

I personally enjoy the way that John Flanagan writes. He uses vivid and descriptive words to paint a picture in your mind. More often than not, He has a change of events right after something good happens to keep the stories interesting. He also portrays the lessons that Will is learning within his adventures. For example, during the first book Will learns not to hold a grudge. He learns this because this kid, Horace, used to bully Will and Will hated it but Horace ended up saving him from a group of kids that wanted revenge on WIll for beating up one of their friends

2/2/15- Battle for Skandia by John Flanagan page 40

Well the supporting group of characters called the Skandians have influenced Will's decisions quite a bit because they captured Will and his friend Evanlyn. After they escaped Will had become addicted to a narcotic they had given him while he was enslaved and Evanlyn had to help end the addiction. Later, another group of Skandians capture Evanlyn and Will choses to go save her.

1/30/15- Battle for Skandia by John Flanagan page 40

In the previous book in the series, The Icebound Land, Will and Evanlyn escaped from slavery but Will became addicted to a narcotic known as warmweed. This relates to gym class because we are currently doing a unit on drug abuse prevention. Also, Evanlyn has been captured by a new group of people that the Will, who recently recovered from his addiction is tracking.
