The Unknown
The Unknown. A realm where things that shouldn’t be possible are. Almost all of the laws of force, motion and gravity do not apply there. People there can stop moving yet stay moving at the same time. They could jump up and instead of going up go straight down. That is why I am falling up. Continuously rising yet falling at the same time. Up I float, higher and higher up through the fiery red sky. I felt nothing, not cold, not warmth, nor do I slow down as I steadily rise. I can’t leave. I’m supposed to be their savior. I thought struggling to reverse the direction I was moving. Yet, up I rose through everything man has ever explored in this rule-bending realm. Up until there is no air for me to breathe; yet, I do not need air. I keep rising, passing through any solid object in my path as I ascend higher and higher into the heavens. Passing by everything the inhabitants of this strange realm have ever imagined. As I rose higher and higher I started seeing and hearing what the other people were seeing and hearing. Then suddenly I realised I was hearing their thoughts as well. Then, I realised, I was never a true part of their society. I am here solely to save them.
*Flashback*
I awoke from my deep slumber and rubbed my eyes. I sat up and looked around realising that I was floating several feet off the ground. I turned to a man that had mysteriously appeared next to me and asked “Where am I? Who am I?”
The man handed me a small plastic rectangle that read Name: Juan Jose Pablo Felipe Hernandez the 4th Occupation: Savior and said “This is your name and job don’t forget. Also, you have to call everyone by their entire name. My name is Tobias George Charlie Fred Getzen the 3rd."
"Why does my card say I'm the savior?" I asked.
"What?!" He shouted and looked at my card. "Wow. It really says that your occupation is savior" He stated in awe.
He called a few of his friends over and they all hoisted me up on their shoulders and brought me into the town and shouted "Make way, make way for our glorious savior."
All of the townsfolk flooded out of their houses to get a look at me as I walked by. I smiled and waved at them as I was carried past. They carried me through the town to a palace in the center of the town. As they were about to carry me into the palace I called down to the men carrying me asking "Why are you taking me to the palace?"
The men looked up and replied "You are destined to become our savior and bring us all back to the normal world where we all, including you, came from."
“Normal world?” I asked confused.
“Ah, you don’t remember yet. We all came from a planet called Earth where forces are always at work. There is this thing called gravity and it keeps thing touching the ground and something called fiction which creates heat and causes moving objects to gradually slow down. We all had families there. People we cared for, people we hated and most of all people we could rely on. We lost all of that when we came here to the Unknown, the lawless land” He reported patiently.
*End of Flashback*
I stared back down at the ground seeing a lot more than what my own eyes saw. I saw other people looking at each other. I heard their thoughts too. Two men saw each other and thought polar opposite things. The kindhearted man looked at his friend and thought That man is a nice person inside, I know it. However, the other man being as cold hearted and backstabbing as he was thought Look at that gullible freak. He is too trusting and too naïve. Just then I came down and confronted the cold hearted, conniving man and said “You should be nicer to that man. He is giving you money to show you kindness and to try to spread kindness throughout the land. Then, I walked over to the kind hearted man placed my hand on his forehead and said “May you return to the land with laws and return to your family and loved ones” Then, in a flash of light, the man disappeared. Back on Earth that man who was believed to have been dead appeared at his own house. He pulled up the welcome mat picked up the key under it and unlocked the door walked in. Then he walked into his son’s room and shook him awake. His son woke “What do you wa..” he trailed off before realising that his father was home. He sucked in a large breath to shout that dad had returned but the man shushed him saying “Remain silent. I will go wake her myself.” The man and is family lived happily ever after. Under the fiery red sky of the Unknown, I turned to the cold hearted man and told him “You shall work under me, without pay, until you learn your lesson.” Later that day, I released an announcement that I was only sending people who were genuinely kind to others back to Earth.
Month after month passed as the cold hearted man worked endlessly, under my orders, to help others. He was forced to watch as the population of the Unknown dwindled. On the third year of working for me, near a farmer’s field, the cold hearted man realised I had stopped telling him what to do; Helping others had become natural to him. I flew down to town and sent him and the last other person in the Unknown back to Earth. I stood alone under the red sky of the Unknown and sealed the gate between Earth and the Unknown as I, along with the Unknown, began to disappear.
